Everything for handling research peptides

Most research peptides are supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder that has to be reconstituted before use. This collection has the supplies for that work: bacteriostatic water, acetic acid water, needles in packs of 5 to 20, and disinfectant wipes. Adding them to the same order as your peptides means everything arrives together, in one tracked parcel. Choosing the right solvent and handling it cleanly is one of the simplest ways to protect a research peptide, because contamination or the wrong pH can degrade material before an experiment begins.

Bacteriostatic water and acetic acid water

Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, a preservative that inhibits bacterial growth, so a vial can be accessed more than once during a study. It is the most common solvent for reconstituting peptides. Some peptides, such as IGF-1 LR3, dissolve and stay stable better in a mildly acidic solution, which is where acetic acid water comes in. Both are supplied in 10ml vials. Bacteriostatic water is not suitable for every peptide, so the solvent should always come from your protocol or the peptide's own documentation.

Needles and disinfectant wipes

Sterile lab needles come in packs of 5, 10, 15 or 20, for drawing solvent and transferring solutions between vials. Disinfectant wipes, in packs of 100, 200 or 300, are for cleaning vial stoppers and work surfaces before each use, which helps prevent contamination of reconstituted material. Delivery takes 1–2 working days to the Netherlands and Belgium with PostNL and Bpost, and 3–8 working days to the rest of Europe with DHL and FedEx. Orders over €150 ship free. What is bacteriostatic water?

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol added. The benzyl alcohol slows bacterial growth, so the vial can be used for more than one reconstitution. It is the standard solvent for most lyophilised research peptides.

When is acetic acid water used instead of bacteriostatic water?

Acetic acid water is used for peptides that are more soluble or more stable in a mildly acidic solution, IGF-1 LR3 being a common example. Always follow the solvent specified in your laboratory protocol.

Can sterile water be used instead of bacteriostatic water?

Sterile water contains no preservative, so it is generally used for solutions that will be used up in one go. Bacteriostatic water is the better choice when a vial will be accessed several times.

How much water is needed to reconstitute a peptide?
