DSIP for sleep and stress research
The sleep and stress collection centres on DSIP, delta sleep-inducing peptide, one of the most discussed neuropeptides in sleep research. It is supplied as a lyophilised research material in 5mg vials, for laboratory use only. Researchers working on related neuropeptide signalling may also find relevant compounds, such as Selank and VIP, in our cognition collection. Because DSIP is the only compound in the collection, this page also brings together what is known about it, from its discovery to the questions that remain open.
What is DSIP?
DSIP is a nonapeptide, a chain of nine amino acids, first isolated in 1977 from the blood of rabbits in which slow-wave (delta) sleep had been induced. It was named after the sleep-related effect reported in those early experiments. Since then it has been studied in a wide range of models, from sleep architecture to hormone release and the physiological response to stress, and it has been detected in the brain as well as in peripheral tissues.
An open research question
Despite decades of study, the mechanism of action of DSIP is still not settled. No dedicated receptor has been identified, and reported effects vary between studies, which is part of what keeps it relevant: it remains an open question in neuropeptide research rather than a closed chapter. It also means that consistent, well-documented material matters when comparing results across experiments. Researchers have proposed interactions with several neurotransmitter and hormone systems, and some studies suggest DSIP acts as a modulator rather than through a receptor of its own, but none of these explanations has been confirmed.
Testing, storage and shipping
Our batches are analysed by Janoshik, an independent laboratory, and the certificate for any batch is available on request. Keep lyophilised DSIP cold, dry and away from light, and refrigerate it once reconstituted.
Orders ship from the Netherlands Monday to Saturday, usually within 24 hours of payment, and are free over €150. DSIP is sold for research purposes only and is not for human consumption. Delivery takes 1 to 2 working days to the Netherlands and Belgium and 3 to 8 working days to the rest of Europe.
